Bachmann 37-2010K 7 Plank end door wagon - R.Y. Pickering & Co Ltd

Very hard to find in such unmarked condition. Great collectors item in as new condition.

7 Plank Wagon in the livery of R.Y Pickering & Co Ltd, Wishaw, No. 1002.

Records show that Pickering was the oldest wagon builder in Scotland, having been formed in 1864 by John Pickering. Pickering had previously been associated with a similar company in Rotherham, Yorkshire however this company had declared bankruptcy in 1863. The company was handed down to John's son, Robert Young Pickering in 1878, who established it as a limited company 10 years later under the name of R.Y Pickering & Co Ltd. As the company expanded they set up works near Airdrie, Thornton Junction in Fife, and in Beighton, to the South East of Sheffield. By 1910 the company employed more than 500 men and were producing up to 3,000 wagons annually, however by 1938 the Pickering family were no longer in control and the company was sold to Lithgow. A further change of hands occurred in 1966 which saw a merge with the North British Electric Welding Company, becoming Norbrit Pickering who finally closed in 1987.
